I can't figure out which one this is, anyone know how to tell? I tried to figure out the date but couldn't do it.

Diameter: just under 29mm
Weight: 9.1g
Edge: reeded
I'm thinking 15-43, though it's pretty hard to make out.

No, there are major differences between the two. I think you're on the right track, though.
*bump* Anyone else have any thoughts on the year or type?
It is a 5 Sho coin.
The year on the coin in 15-52

You can use this very nice site for learning about dates on Tibetan coins
http://creounity.com/apps/time_machine/index.php?go=tibet.php&lang=en

On NGC site there is Y# 18.2 coin for this year
http://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/tibet-5-sho-y-182-15-52-cuid-56184-duid-152298

But one thing to observe is that the sun above the lion on the obverse of your coin is not matching with that on NGC's page.

It is more like that on Y# 18, but there is no 15-52 year mentioned on the NGC's page of this variety.

You might have to do more research on the varieties and years for this coin.

It looks pretty close to this 15-52 on ebay:

I use the Creounity site all the time, but it didn't help me with this, the characters are too messy.

Yes you are right. Its the same year and the lion and sun are matching.
Its Y# 18.1 (How did I miss that  x. )

Yeah. Also the main problem is to find the exact location of the date characters on the Tibetan coin. I also faced similar problems while identifying the dates of some of my Tibetan copper coins.

Funny that it sold for $300 when the NGC value for that year is $75.
Yeah, somebody must have wanted it badly in their collection
