I have a fake 20 cents from Germany, different colour, weight etc. Is it worth something???

A fake is worth scrap value unless some collector wants it. Would never consider spending a fake for face value knowing it is one.

Perhaps they're practicing on lower value coins before going on to higher value ones

I don't know why they would be I don't think it could be a mint error. I mean it's a poor Brandenburger Tor but the colour is still different. And the 1 gram difference between this coin and all my 20 ct coins.
