Hello.
Can I have some ideas of value of a Dutch coin 21/2 or 2.5 Guilders dated 1863
unusually ? It is quite brown in colour, not silver as described in most sites I viewed
It has the head of William 3rd and the coat of arms on the obverse
edge inscription G O D Z Y M L T STAR

I assume you mean netherlands, and silver can tarnish or get covered in gunk like other coins. If its real ngc says 1250usd in vf. Condition, here is link

There are lots of fakes from the 2 1/2 Guldens from 1840, 1863 and 1898. So watch out. And yes, on the edge it should say:
* GOD * ZY * MET * ONS ●
