...I just joined and wanted to know if anyone can assist me with identifying a couple of ca.1920/30's Republic of China coins that I have spent far too long trying to identify Are there any forum members with a good knowledge of such coins?
Great, maybe I can finally find a spot for them...I think they are 5 fen/cash coins
won't let me upload any images...I'm not that computer savvy, so it's probably just me...I'll try and get an external site to upload them to and add a link...bear with me
< [Maybe - 1 Fen 1929 Year 18]
Coin 1 is also denomination 1 Fen, and is Year 18. So should be 1929 then.
For the date only - this coin https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces42343.html has all seven characters like yours, and is therefore Year 18 (1929) and it is a 1 Fen, but of different design.
Cheers for the response...that's the trouble I had too, I sorta' figured that one didn't have the hole, but even then, that same coin has a different design to the images of the coin you linked, similar but different...? Do you, or does any other member know of a good book which goes into great detail about "Republic of China" coins? I love doing the research required to identify a coin, but these are getting me all wound up!
Cheers for the info mate, I found an almost similar design on a Baldwin's auction download, but it is a Szechuan 5 cent pattern in nickel, but it is so similar...so with your info and some refrence I might keep plugging on! Thanks so much!
In my searching I have seen Kann, Eduard used as a reference...does anyone know what publication/s he brought out that all the auction houses seem to use to designate chinese coins?
There are 2 pieces "Harbin warship 1 fen copper" as known, one in National Museum of China at Beijing, one in Shanghai Museum. If this one is real, it will be the 3rd piece in the world so far.
coin 2
It shown "China Republic year 15, 50 cash" on the coin, but 50 cash of year 15 is like this.....
Thanks for that information...I guess you would have to reckon that my coin isn't real then coz I'm never that lucky! I will do some research based on the info you provided...you never know, I might have a great numismatic tale to tell if I can authenticate it!
Hi, your coins are fake. They are basically fantasy coins made to look like Chinese coins, but these designs never circulated since they are made up. A quick search on eBay will tell you these are common.
