Looking at this coin a second time, it could very well be a fake. The rim is uneven and 1862 pennies were issued in cupronickel, not copper.

Its looks like a coin was left in the bottom of the die and was pressed in a new one. But it looks funny.

Hmm interesting, might be interesting to contact a rare US coins Auction house and send them an E-Mail with pictures, they might tell you more.
I recently saw at a german Auction a 5 Mark coin with a simmilar error. I don't remember exactly for how much it sold but it was more than 20,000 Euro (It was in UNC condition though).
Too bad its worn, how could something like this go into circulation
