X-D Monthy Python rules!

... and now to something completely different ...

how much would an ... [educated, well-informed, passionate] Briton pay for those 2 coins:
Victoria Herself's... and Her Majesty's Majestic Grandpa, His Majesty's?

Dank U well,
Imre
Phhhh.... lazy Brits ;(  (8  :D ...

I had a deadline... so quoting your Hamlet, the Dutch-Brit Queen ( :o )

"To click or not to click..."

I have clicked:

I bought the lot (2) in the picture quality for USD 254.458667 [in case anyone wants to know a very precise price]

Now, the topic changes: am I an idiot, or have a good sense of value? - or both? 8)
By book value, you came in somewhat below with your purchase ..

Do not argue with ignorant people .. !! They will drag you down to their level, then pulverize you with experience ...
Be careful that the 1804 coin isn't fake, though it looks ok.
1) Special greeting to You for changing your Avatar! - Welcome to Europe!
2) No, it is not fake.

The 5 shilling is XF £500!
You have done great. I apologise for the delay in reply...I was at work. A good win, Imre, well done.
You are not serious about apologies, I hope... Quick action, was needed.
Thanks to all of you: ... still if you have valuation comments, do so please!

As soon as they arrive, they will be ready for swap.

THANKS. DONE
Hello Imreh my dear fellow. So sorry to be late, it's the story of my life I'm afraid.

I'm pretty sure you are more than savvy enough to avoid forgeries and know how to get the "Sotheby's" price so let's skip that part and concentrate on the real world price for a genuine pair of coins. I'd want to take a close look at the uneven toning on the double florin reverse though. I don't think it's fake but it looks sinister in a "coin-doctorie" way. Perhaps it's just the pictures, hopefully it's better in hand.

There is always a premium for high quality British coins in the US compared to the UK.  You could actually make a living by partnering a clued up buyer in England with someone with access to the US market.

One other factor to consider is that they are both from relatively neglected series. I know lots of people who collect every denomination from farthings upwards but I've yet to meet a double florin collector. It was a short lived experiment to make British coins more compatible with European decimal currencies. The Bank of England issues are regarded by some collectors as tokens rather than kosher coins of the realm. Still, there will be no shortage of interest I can guarantee.

Speaking personally I love them both! I'd have been happier at around $200 for both, ecstatic at $150 but even at $250 I'd be confident of a small profit or at the very least breaking even.

I'm sure that there are countless e-bay links where each example has sold for hundreds of dollars and an equal number of sales where the bids only reached bullion value. Like statistics, you can pretty much prove anything with a few e-bay links. Better to close you eyes and let the force flow through you as you trust your instincts.

Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.
Make Numismatics Great Again!
Agreed, if you're happy with the price you paid then it was a good deal is it not?

I'd put the crown at F+-VF- which would put it in between $125 and $250, that would mean you're almost on par with catalogue value.

I'd be happy with the price of $250.  I'm pretty sure the double florin alone would go for around NZ$100 over here.

Thanks for your comments and encouragement!

RE:eBay, it is not from there, it's from a trusted numismatic auction house, hence I trust these are not fakes, but I'll see when I get them.

I never bought anything from eBay, except some work-related books, I do not even dare to view coins there, honestly, I am afraid I would end up becoming addicted :snif:
I would love that 5s its Always one I forget about when I have money to spend !

I have one double florin and they are awesome. Good busy mate !
Howdy,

1) is that an issue with my computer or do you share the breakdown of Numista visually, that it actually appears like hmmm "sh*t" - i.e. like text only no design... hmmmm

2) Well, these 2 coins are my first investments into anything British, with the exception of buying bulk of pennies and farthings at Portobello road in London and grabbing some low hanging fruits of Conder Tokens at some Hungarian auctions where people have no clue what those were (including me ;) ).... so I'll peep into this and maybe it will develop into a hobby, God knows, insha'Allah.

Thanks and cheers, and if this web breakdown is the last moment we share, then God bless you all... it looks really awkward on my screen.  :(
Excellent stating point :)
Yeah the forum looks crap. I thought it was because of my phone and the poor internet connection on holiday !

Don't blame holidays, blame Xavier, that works!
... anyways, sh*t happens, but should not. Serious sites never experience this at least not without warning. z)

Save your collection to Excel, till you can do it... and...  as said... God bless you!
It's a pretty decent starting position.  Most start with the lower denominations and work their way up.  In saying that, my first British coin was this one https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces13074.html. In case you can't see anything with the Numista bug, it's a George I shilling.

Right Neil, I cannot see anything now, but all the enthusiasts have assured us, that things will go fine, so I'll be able see them later, insha'Allah.

My first British was one of the most prestigious varieties; a gothic florin!
I've been looking for an affordable 1804 since... maybe 2 months ago.

I have enough money for a F conditioned one... nice coins though!
