It has been the 5th time I have been accused of being non-consistent in my messages and comments.
So, I thought I wrote a little essay on that:
What consistency means is [to me] is valueing the same behavior the same way; not valueing the same person the same way.
So simply, if [in my value system] you do things right, I will give you positive feedback, right here on the forum or elsewhere.
If [in my value system] you do things wrong, I will give you negative feedback. Simply, as it is. Since my job revolves around giving feedback to people, I rarely give zero feedback, which most of the people do.
As a logical consequence, You, Ben, Xavier, Laurent, Walder, Kenny or others, might find that Imre sometimes likes you sometimes he does not.
This is not the case: as I always evaluate the actual behavior you are showing: so sometimes I praise You, sometimes I give you negative/improvement feedback.
I cannot change that and do not want to change that.
I like You all as a person [this is what Ben would call swinging in and out], however sometimes your behavior is questionable! [to my value system] - that does not mean I am inconsistent, on the contrary: I am giving you tough times on your behavior/performance rather than on your personality.
BTW, on this site I wonder who else would give you development feedback? ...Torontokuba has gone, Phil has turned too polite, so? ... so who? ... Gupta?
Greetings from the most Consistent Numista peasant.
1) NO, we should not continue this via PM, because all of the people are here, who care, and who are affected! - Turning this into a PM would be a coward move.
2) I have never said that my values are the right ones. They are just there, as they are. You seemed to agree to most of them. - unfortunatelly most of them has vagued...over time.
This is a real question of consistency!:
Do you really believe that this site will be better by Xavier's actions?
Well, Neil,
I am not going to go on PM on something, which I trust the entire community shall know...
Regardless of what the forum guidelines say. (btw, it is not a personal problem, at all)
Delete me, ignore me, but, please, there are a lot of people out there who want to have the answer:
" Do you, Ben, believe that this site will improve because of Xavier's dedication and determination?"
You need to ask yourself something. How many people have stopped using the forums through being sick of your constant pollution of every thread with your whinging, complaining, personal attacks, negativity, cynicism and sarcasm. And what exactly has your constant complaining achieved?
I understand that some things do need to be made public, if you believe they are real, deep issues within the site or among a group of moderators/admins in general, and that only by making them public will they be fixed. However, may I say that in my (short) time here, I have seen nothing like that. I admit that the thread about improvements to the site was way too long and detailed for someone as new as me to follow, but I got the gist that things were being listened to, put on to-do lists, etc. I don't get the impression that the admins and moderators don't care about this site, aren't here often enough, or are not invested in improving this site. (One must also note that improvements do take time.)
It also doesn't seem inconsistent to me that you will like a person, or a set of people, but may not always like what they do. But, if I'm gathering the "situation" right, you seem to have moral issues with the site, with the people who run it, or both. I personally see no moral issues at hand here. Unless there's some malevolent undercurrent going on within the site that I simply have yet to become aware of, I must confess that I don't understand what you're talking about in this post, or why you'd have issues with anyone in an authoritative position here.
One thing that I do know, from too much personal experience, is that huge emotional involvement in a subject can sometimes limit or even erase the ability to be objective about a situation. So consider that, whatever is going on, you may not be fully objective about the situation at hand. (Note that I am not saying that you aren't -- just that you might be.) However, this applies to both sides of any debate, and I would apply the same standards to the other side, so don't think I'm picking on you specifically. I would say this to anyone here -- in fact, I guess I am. And perhaps one reason that a person can be called inconsistent is because they say or do different things to people based on their opinions about a certain subject. Objectively, that kind of behavior does not make sense. If you like a person overall, there's hardly any need to be unkind to or disrespectful of that person, and no need to try to bring a person (or thread) down in any way because you disagree on a topic.
I guess the point is that being honest with someone, and having a discussion or a debate, is far different than your behavior towards a person, particularly on a forum. If the discussion turns from a debate into a personal attack, that's where the line is drawn between what is objectively reasonable to post on this forum, and what must, under the rules, be posted by PM only. I cannot personally 100% know whether you are crossing this line, but it seems to me as though the admins/moderators feel that you are, in this conversation. Perhaps the best thing to do at this point is PM people and ask what issues they are having with this post and what you can do to help resolve them. It seems to me that there is, perhaps, a lack of clarity going on because feelings are being hurt, whether intentionally or not, and as such the meaning behind the words from each side may not be coming through to the other side as they were meant to.
DISCLAIMER: I may or may not actually know what I'm talking about in any of this. You are all free to judge for yourselves.
A six year Numista absence makes the heart grow fonder... ?
My dear fellow, I am consistently polite. Benefits of an expensive education old chap.
I'm mostly inactive due to the site being broken since December of last year. As I can't even get an acknowledgement that anyone is aware or even cares, I'm quite reconciled to the idea that Numista is functionally useless and likely to remain so. I stay in touch with a few friends and occasionally ask for some ID help but anything beyond that is just too time consuming or currently not possible.
I don't blame Ben or any of the other team members for the problem. If someone tells me that the issue has been passed along then until I hear otherwise I believe it has been done. I have to admit that the lack of a response is bewildering, a simple message to say "Hey, no time now but I'll look at it later" would have been sufficient.
I've exported my collection and put any remaining swaps on indefinite hold. I gave up caring one way or the other about Numista along with many others in 2013 after the Shamikb farce. Numista isn't the only game in town, there are alternatives without the disappointments and drama.
I have a very high regard for your intelligence my dear Imreh and so I'm sure it must be as plain to you as it is to me that Numista is going nowhere. Why flog a dead horse?
If the site ever becomes useable again then I have several thousand new coins to swap, if it doesn't I'll put them on eBay and Listia. I don't intend to hang around Numista like Banquo's ghost, I'm just too busy enjoying the local alternatives I've developed,
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

I think personally that both sides have very valid points. All that I would have said about the subject has already been told by both sides and by neutral observators in this thread, so I will not repeat them apart of ONE thing that for me is most important.
I do love Numista, I think it is a great site, but...
... Yes, please, please, please, someone keep us posted simply for the fact that Xavier is still alive and stuff like that. By god I hope he is and it would be nice once in few months even to say what's in pipeline and that he knows of the issues reported.
That is all I'm personally wanting. However long it takes to fix these ('cos I for one know what means to be so busy you have not a second to spare) it would be nice to know every now and then the ship does have a captain.

Education aside, I would have thought it more of a cultural attribution of a British upbringing.
As far as Numista and this topic is concerned, I believe there are plenty of stool sample consistency tests already out there, but, if you guys want to start your own, well, you're on the right website. Here are some tips and visual guides...
1.Collect the stool in a dry, clean, leakproof container.
2.Fresh stool should be examined, processed, or preserved immediately.
3.Specimen collection may need to be repeated if the first examination is negative.

You are extremely right and wise on this one, Phil.
I am probably very naive, hoping that there might be a "horse defibrillator" somewhere, or hoping that some teammembers wish to defibrillate the horse, ... and though I had hopes in some of them, but it's gone by now.
My intelligence, you quoted, also somehow limits me to comprehend why someone who raised a great stallion, is so much ignorant that he lets the stallion die.

Mashallah, my friend.
The cheerleaders will still cheer, those who see the merit of your efforts will continue to see it. All that needs to be said has been said. There is nothing to be gained from further efforts except to alienate those who are not committed either way.
I've always enjoyed conversing with a man who knows so much about the world in general and coins in particular. I'm very aware that you have invested a lot of time and effort. It's time to draw a line under that experience and move on. Back to the Imreh version 1 whose knowledge and ability to communicate it were so impressive.
It really pains me to see you so unhappy and setting yourself up for condemnation.
