Quote: otto rupeeWas he the general who lost an arm?
His arm was amputated shortly before he died.
You might be thinking of John Bell Hood who lost an arm, a leg and various other bits. Despite all this he was still in the fight when a draw was agreed in 1865.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

Our big war in Canada (that wasn't the War of 1812... ok, fine, it was always just the British involved on BNA land) was the Battle of the Plains of Abraham where the British managed to take Quebec City from the French. What gets me is that both generals (Wolfe and Montcalm) managed to get themselves killed in just 15 minutes of fighting. Definitely not an inspiration to anyone.

Abraham Martin he of the "Plains of Abraham" is my direct ancestor...his daughter married my great great and so on grandfather...i was always baffled about how the french screwed the pooch on defending Quebec City
He had already had an arrow shot through his hand fighting Indians before the Civil War. But if you think he was tough, look up Nathan Bedford Forrest. Chose a pro-South website or you will get the PC version of this remarkable man.
I don't scare easily but if I was walking on the sidewalk and saw Nathan Forrest and John Bell Hood approaching I do believe I might step into the gutter and let them pass by.
Incidentally, you know the Fort Hood massacre by that Nidal nutjob? The fort where it took place is named after this same hero of the South.

More like run.
To the moon.
And hide.
On the dark side.
Until they're on the other side of the planet.
Anyway
My neighbor found out that I like coins and showed me his little album that his grandfather owned. He has one in EX or even UNC he also has one of those flowing hair bust dollars. I don't have one so I asked if he would trade for a gun. He said he doesn't like guns. Oh well.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
