This summer, I'm going to try to learn a language (school style, self taught) to the point where I can have a relatively accurate convo with someone... the problem is, I don't know which one to actually focus on... just need some quick opinions, and please, keep any political bias to yourself ;)
Languages I can actually develop with ease (I am slightly familiar/know a bit of it)
- Spanish
- German
- (not too familiar, but similar to German and French) Swedish
- (not too familiar, but similar to French and Spanish) Portugues

University is time consuming, cherish your free time!
Depends what you're planning on doing with it. If you're planning on using it to travel then you're probaly better off with Spanish and French since they're spoken in more countries than German, Swedish or Portugese.
I'm starting to learn Spanish, I would choose that.. I did consider Portuguese however I don't like the way it sounds. The only benefit is being able to go to brazil and communicate immediately "/
Spanish is by far (I guess) easier than German, Swedish, or Portuguese.
If you´re from Canada and have some basics of French, I would say that Spanish, as a Latin language will be easier to learn for you.
Plus, there´s a lot of countries where you can use Spanish. It would be OK to learn Portuguese, but I must say that even in Portugal or Brazil, everyone will understand your Spanish, but not the opposite. So... it´s up to you.
Well.. and you have movies, music, etc. to learn it easily and comfortably.
If you learn Spanish, automatically you are learning the basics for Portuguese. The grammatical rules and conjugations are almost the same, so improve the Portuguese is much easier later. I have understood that, after English and Chinese (Mandarin), Spanish is the most spoken language, so for business or travel or you can use it a lot..
