Buddies I have to ship 1895 US Dollar out of India for verification, any clues on how to go about it? I guess ASI certificate is required only for Indian coins older than 100 years.I tried shipping using speed post but got it returned and asked for ASI. Any light on this? Prakash

Quote: Walder CoinsHow prohibitive is it to apply for the certificate ?
It isn't prohibitive. But the problem is I have never tried and what if they say it's government property and seize it? The shipment is from India not USA.
Quote: Walder CoinsI struggle to see why they would call it government property as the coin isnt Indian.
The rules seems like that. Generally only for Indian coins over 100 years, ASI certificate is needed but they request for foreign coins too - what to do?
Best to find out in country of origin post office.
They would just send it but customs won't pass through; that's the problem. Once we say coin or numismatic or even sample, almost all metal packages are opened and checked.
Get the ASI certificate, or waste money sending it and having it returned all the time. Remember the more you keep sending it just for it to be returned to you, the greater the chances of it being lost or damaged.
1. if you post from South India like Bangalore/Chennai .. your package will be got in Chennai custom and get returned.
2. if you post from Hyderabad or Mumbai or Calcutta then no problem - it always goes out of India (even 100yrs old coin also).
3. I checked with RBI - as per them we can send coins worth 7500rs in post. Condition Commemorative coins 2 each. No other condition. Refer "Notification No.FEMA 6/RB-2000 dated May 2000"
But Chennai custom not agreeing .. still following up with them ..
so you try sending coins from your friend who stay in north India.
