Hey guys,

Just few days ago I obtained my first and the only platinum coin:

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces25393.html

What do you think about platinum coins in general? Do you think platinum is a traditional coin metal (think about Russian circulation coins of XIX century such as https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces23166.html) or it is rather an exotic contemporary choice similar to niobium or palladium?
Interesting, I would call it.

Damn that's an ugly coin.  :O

Perhaps, although I've seen many coins uglier than that and the beauty of coins is a subjective matter.  :)  Do you have thoughts about platinum in general besides your opinion about a particular coin?
I think it's just a novelty metal used for bullion. Definitely not a traditional metal.  Gold and silver will always be the traditional metals.
Novelty metal all the way but it does make fine jewelry a little hard to work yet as for a coin it is a nice metal for any collection but expensive none the less.  :°
remember i for i coins
swap list under reconstruction!

I don't like bullion coins so I guess it's nice only in the old coins from Russia ...

Platinum is the most precious of the precious three. It is a very rare and scarcely mined metal with many uses. You can't go wrong owning a piece, regardless if it is in coin, tooth filling or Tiffany jewellery form. As long as it comes from a reputable source, I think it is a treasure. Whether or not now is the right time to buy, remains to be seen. Gold has no business being at par with platinum. Speculation on gold and silver remains huge and down the road we'll find out how much it affected platinum.

Do you mean platinum should be more expensive than gold?

Yes, only after gold drops back down to earth from its overinflated bubble.

Ok, 8) .

QuoteThe annual supply of platinum is only about 130 tons - which is equivalent to only 6% (by weight) of the total Western World's annual mine production of gold - and less than one percent of silver's yearly mine production.

Relative to volume mined, platinum has many more industrial uses than either silver or gold. In fact more than 50% of the yearly production of platinum is consumed (read destroyed) by industrial uses - unlike gold!

I think it is an awesome metal and the fact that the Russians used it as coinage legitimizes it as a true coinage metal.

One day I will have some too.

 Good choice.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
