Authenticity of Ducaton

3 posts • viewed 92 times

ive recently acquired what seem to be a Ducaton of Holland from 1738, it looks to be shipwrecked, would this be real?
what would be the province it is from in case Ive misidentified it. Coin is underweight due to probably corrosion and sounds like high purity silver when tapping it against a solid surface.
the coin has a cabled edge/reeded edge with lines slanting.

thanks so much in advance!

It's from the Netherlands East Indies (VOC monogram reverse):  N#53471.

I agree it looks like a salvage coin, and I would have guessed 1739 but you have the coin in hand..

I have better photos now if needed.
