Very nice 22k gold medal I purchased through an online reputable dealer today. I cant wait to get it in-hand.

This is sure to become one of my favorites. Does anyone have any info on it. Gold versions are especially rare.

Thanks!

Laverne was a member of the board of the Yacht Club de France in 1914, which organized the "Laverne Cup".

Ahh, cool. Thank you.

So Laverne was a big-wig sailing club organizer who created a medal for himself, or perhaps it was gifted.

Awarded as a winner of the race.

Thanks for the info Francelover! France made the most beautiful coins in my opinion.

When it comes to art and food, France is impossible to beat.

Posters on another forum are saying that it's very unlikely that this medal is actually gold, but gold plated. Apparently alot of these French Yacht medals were just plated from back in the day.

I find it hard to belive that NGC would mis-label a non gold coin as gold.

When I get it I will use my Sigma Pro to test, and do a specific gravity test on it.. then have it shot by an Xray gun.

Bonjour,

Très jolie médaille.
Logiquement il devrait y avoir des informations (poinçon + texte) sur la tranche de celle-ci.

NGC indique « corne d’abondance » , il s'agit donc d’une médaille frappée par la Monnaie de Paris.
