Need help identifying ancient Chinese Coins

7 posts • viewed 122 times

Dear collectors,

some time ago I was able to buy some chinese antiques from a real estate of an antique dealer.

Beside things I do collect I found some chinese coins and money related bronzes which I am not able to Identity or evaluate (I rather collect asian pottery, porcelain and object d‘art).

So I really would appreciate your kind help.

Please find attached the photographs of the items.

looking forward to receiving your expertise.

I found some informations about the multiple ring objects but have no idea about it‘s value:

The size of the bronze relief showing the spade money is 12.6x7.2cm.

is anybody able to translate the writing and could Tell me the age?

Thank you so much.

Kim

Google lens leads to a spade charms, distantly related to the spade (shovel) shaped money of the Zhou Dynasty (11th Century BC - 221 BC),  listed in the reference primaltrek.com

The first 4 images are all of fakes unfortunately. The note is from a Japanese feudal domain, looks real. I'm not a Japanese expert, but here's a similar looking one to help you out in your search:

The plate with two uncut spades is also almost certainly fake, and the pieces at the end, while I cant speak to their authenticity, are not coins. As the source on them you found said, they were likely related to horses, or perhaps accessories or burial goods.

Thank you for your kind help and your opinion.

I am still interested what is written at the back of the bronze plate showing the spades.

According to my experience and knowledge about asian bronzes the plate is quite old. I would guess at least Ming dynasty.

I don‘t think it would have been used to cut out but maybe a show plate depicting ancient money with a description at the back.

Has anybody seen a similar piece before?

Bronze plates look interesting, almost like Wang Mang spades. Text on back is illegible and jumbled, indicating almost certainly a fake.

Always happy to assist in any way!
