I have some of those as well. People used to make bracelets and other jewellery out of those coins, by interconnecting them with soldered metal wires or chains. A temporary fad in those days.

No, not rare at all. For some reason those bracelets were quite popular, and I see a lot of such coins in collections and auctions.

It also decreases the value as the coin now has rim damage.
