my coin has strange protrusions on the edge of the coin

I have some of those as well. People used to make bracelets and other jewellery out of those coins, by interconnecting them with soldered metal wires or chains. A temporary fad in those days.

No, not rare at all. For some reason those bracelets were quite popular, and I see a lot of such coins in collections and auctions.

No, it is not rare in any way, plenty are around, from different coins too.

It also decreases the value as the coin now has rim damage.
