Under weight and thin 1979 Lincoln penny

At first just looked like damage but weight and size could indicate incorrect planchet???

Your thoughts please.

Or a severely damaged normal penny. What is the weight and size (diameter and thickness)?

weights 2.46 gm, thinner than normal cent as in original post [looks like a mm]. Diameter is almost the same as a regular cent, just a smidg smaller.

Well, regardless of the weight (-20% is significant) with that kind of wear/damage it's not going to be desired by collectors especially if the composition has not been positively determined to be from the wrong planchet.  Have you had the composition verified?  (I wouldn't spend money to do it but a coin shop may do it for you for free.)

Agree, don't think it is worth spending money on. Probably it is just serious environmental damage that has eaten away at the original coin.

Thanks for your input.
