It sounds like you are a new collector?  Those nicks and dings on the surface of the coin are called post-mint damage (PMD), and in this case they really hurt any potential “eye appeal” of the coin to a collector, and make it worth relatively very little, as mentioned by others.

 

You can use eBay to do this kind of research, but must use “Advanced Search” and click on “Sold Items” before pressing the search button.  You will find this one without the damage that sold for only $1.49:

Yes I’m very new to collecting. I have some old world coins my grandpa gave me and that’s what got me started. thank you for the info

My start with world coins was when my dad gave me coins he had brought home from his service in WWII. 

You will probably learn about some countries that no longer exist! 

my youngest son is in the Navy and is collecting coins for me from every country he goes to
