I got a 1972 S Lincoln penny that I cant determine if its just machine doubling or a true D/D. Any help is appreciated

69S, 70S and 71S proof have reported DDO's. I'm not aware of any for 72S.
Do you see doubling of the mint mark?
No, the S mint mark looks alright.
Looks like doubling to me, especially the E, and the word GOD stands out to me.
But 90% of all letters look like that, even Liberty. The just the 2 in the date, the loop of the top of the 2, underneath shows a partial 2.
Idk lol, but definitely in hopes its a true 1972 doubled die though.
The mint marks at the time were not on the dies so a DD would not double the mint mark. Can you post a picture of the entire coin?
I know lately I've been asking about various coin possible errors i might have, but it seems like I'm getting the best help through this forum.
So, thanks to anyone, and be patient if im not educated on the correct errors I might or might not have.
Any help us definitely appreciated
I know very little on this subject. I have found Wexlers and Lincolncentresource to be helpful, in that they usually provide die markers for positive identification. I'm sorry that I can't do links.
All I can say is that DDO's for this coin in that time frame received a lot of attention. I can't imagine that DDO's for 1969S, 1970S, 1971(P), 1971S proof and 1972 (P) are famous and well documented but 1972S gets overlooked. I'd go with machine doubling for just that reason.
I just don't want to get too hyped up about it, in case its nothing.
Just being cautious and learning as I go.
But, if something, and its a solid PR67 or PR68 condition a DDO, and i only paid $12.00 for the whole set, the might be impressive
The only positive proof of a double die is the presence of the other die indicators . It's possible you might have a new example, in which case your best bet is to contact the folks who are the most knowledgeable. Again, sorry I can't provide links.
Its alright, and still thanks for any information to help and the conversation
A 1972S DDO would be worth a lot. If you think that's what you have get it certified by NGC.
