How To Remove Coins From A Presentation Card? [solved]

8 posts • viewed 76 times

Hello everyone!

I recently received this as a gift:

But later realised the coins are somehow stuck to the presentation card with some sort of glue or adhesive. Any suggestions on how I can remove the coins safely and with the least chance of damage? It’s so unfortunate as I would also like to keep the card intact since it is a present I want to maintain, but I have a feeling the card will need to be destroyed in the process 😔

Quick update: I carefully removed them from the card, and they came out with varying degrees of leftover paper and glue on their backs.

Would soaking them in warm water be enough to get rid of that? I’m especially worried for that old-looking coin 😰😬

Try a hair dryer to see if low heat will soften the glue enough to easily remove them.

Edit: OK too late. Depending on type of adhesive acetone may desolve it.

I knew I should have waited before doing anything  🤦🏻‍♀️

I’ll try that, thank you… I’m not very knowledgeable, but would acetone cause any damage? Or it’s not strong enough to do that?

Pure acetone is considered non-destructive to coins although some say otherwise.  Also acetone in nail polish remover may contain other ingredients such as perfume that some say could damage coins. My opinion is the short time you'll need with either won't hurt.  Your idea of warm water is good to start with for glues such as Elmer's Wood Glue but won't do a thing for some adhesives.

I see, thanks again!

I’ll first try water just in case, then move over to acetone if it doesn’t work.

Much appreciated! 😊
