anyone come across one of these Varieties / dot after the 7 in a 1987 can dime

There is nothing about it on CoinsandCanada.com. My opinion is that it is PMD. There are many scratches in that area and I think one is a gouge that has scraped some material up to look like a dot. Take it to your LCS and get a professional opinion.

I suspect that your coin was struck by a damaged die. I see similarities between your coin and mine. What do you think?

Sorry I don't believe your dime,  is similar to what I posted.  I have several of these, one is graded  by ICCS.  Happy hunting.
