Hey!
I'm doing research into colonial era coins from Macau.
I may have found an error in the catalog. The mintage numbers mentioned in Numista for the coins minted in 1952 are the maximum mentioned in the decree that authorised them.
And the decree can be found here: Diário do Governo n.º 14/1952, Série I de 1952-01-19, páginas 251 – 252. Link: https://diariodarepublica.pt/dr/detalhe/decreto/38607-1952-603021
However the numbers mentioned in the decree are the legal maximum limit. Actual mintage numbers were lower. As follows;
Legal limit → actual
5 avos 5.000.000→ 1.020.140
10 avos 12.500.000 → 6.818.130
50 avos 9.000.000 → 2.560.140
1 pataca 4.500.000 → 520.080
5 patacas 900.000 → 500.080
This is described in statistical report on the currency circulation. For example the 1958 report (found here: https://debates.parlamento.pt/catalogo/r2/dan/01/07/03/133S1/1959-11-26/117). Reports from later years show identical numbers.
The 50 avos 1952 (N#2941 ) shows the correct number. The other ones the legal limit.
For example the 10 avos: N#2945
Do you agree with this assesment and should i make a change request?
