Maybe German States or nearby country [solved]

This isn’t mine so I was limited in what information I have. I don’t know the weight or diameter but I think it was near the size of a US dime. They bought this with a handful of German States, so it may be from there or a nearby country.

I think I see a cross with a shield on one side and a griffin on the other side.
(I photographed it with my phone through a coin flip so the pictures aren’t perfect.)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The cross and shield, inside a rope circle, look like a Livonia [Riga] Schilling. Example:

In Krauze's German coat of arms only Rostock got griffon.

Livonian Riga would have cross or crossed keys on other side.

Ah, yes. This page has the lettering also >

That part of the coin is worn but I suspect the legend is actually MONETA GRIPESWO

Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Yes, may be a fancy M letter >

Still not sure what the full lettering would be.

Thank you all! I am very impressed with how fast and well you recognized the coin!

Since you all helped us identify it, they were able to price it and sell it to me! One more German State closer to completing the full set! 😁

 Nice. 😊
