Old, unknown coins from India #3 and #4 [solved]

Hi all,

two more coins - and again I was not able to identify them yet:

#3:

  • Diameter: 21 mm
  • Thickness: 5.6 mm
  • Weight: 15.9 g
  • Material: copper (probably) - not magnetic

#4:

  • Diameter: 18.5 mm
  • Thickness: 4.9 mm
  • Weight: 8 g
  • Material: copper (probably) - not magnetic

Pic4 looks very similar as obverse of N#138253, but unfortunately reverse looks completely different

Can anyone help to identify these coins?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I was reviewing old unanswered posts and found your question.

First coin is a gani of the Bahmani Sultans, Mahmud Shah (AH 887-924 = AD 1482-1518), Goron/Goenka BH124

I believe you are correct that the second coin is a half gani of the  Bahmani Sultans, Kalim Allah Shah (AH 932-945 = AD 1526-1538), Goron/Goenka BH165.

This coin in Zeno has a very different striking position on the flan from yours, but the visible elements match.

The Numista example of this coin cited above also has a very different striking position on the flan from your coin.

I also looked at the photo of the example in Goron/Goenka of BH165 and it matches your coin.

Hi Seeker55

thanks a lot for your reply and your identification!

Puzzle solved - its all about striking position 😃!
