Hallo Everyone,

I have this coin , 19 mm, approx. 1 gram.

I think it is Netherlands republic, Groningen

I found an equivalent coin in the Numista catalog, but my coin has 4 letters

in the cross.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks in advance,

Cor den Boer

Whats similar reference did you find in the catalog ?

Referee of south atlantic islands

In the catalog N# 280185 has no letters between in the arms of the cross at the reverse side

I see an O, a P and two other signs

I enclose a marked picture

280185 is :

N#280185

no relationship with your coin

Salve,è ½ stuiver di Groninger con SPQG (Senatus popolus que groningensis) un po tipo questo.

Apparently it is not in the Numista catalog

Nice work!

Normally the denomination is written as  J-    S for ½ Stuiver (as in the link).  The J with a bar through it is an old shorthand for ½ .  So this seems to be a variant where it is written 1  2.

Your coin appears to be dated 1649 which is a date listed by Purmer.

I will add the coin today.

It is “stuiver”, not “stiver” :-)

They say "Pecunia non olet", but I know better...

Thank you for your help
