Hello everyone. I’ve always found it strange that this coin reportedly only had a mintage of 7,050 when it’s quite cheap to buy.

A website that specialises in Yemeni coinage claims the real mintage number is likely around 1,000,000. (http://www.chiefacoins.com/Database/Countries/Yemen_Arab_Republic.htm)

Does anyone know where the 7,050 number came from and if there’s a way to change it to a more accurate estimate?

Who coined the term "coining a term" anyway?

The web site you referenced puts the mintage at 7,050 also.

So does SCWC.

Oops! My bad, I was looking at the non-FAO version. But the mintage numbers still make very little sense. The prices for this coin seem to be absurdly low for its “rarity”, and even the numista rarity index indicates that tons of people have this coin, even more than the non-FAO version, of which more than a million coins were minted.

There is the possibility that some members made a mistake.

As this is the only figure we have, we don't have a choice but to keep it.

But considering how the +1,000,000 non-FAO coin seems to be more expensive (eg check Lastdodo & Ucoin), and more rare (Numista & Lastdodo collector numbers), don't you think it's more likely that the official number is either missing 3 zeros or that the 7,050 is actually the number for some special BU strike of the coin rather than the main mintage? (as Ucoin seems to indicate)

That 7,050 number is also strangely close to the number of PROOF non-FAO 1 fils minted (5,024 & 10,000), which would support the theory that this number is not representative of the business strike at all.

My suggestion would be to simply remove it, and potentially add a note regarding the suspicious number in the comment area on the page of that coin. Everything so far points to this number not being correct or representative.
