Could this work?

Hi Numista,

I was wondering... would making actual mixed bags of coins to sell or trade work?

http://coinsnnotes.weebly.com/sets.html

I'm asking for an honest opinion since I have so many bags of coins I haven't even looked through and I know that the few that I've opened had some gems. Just sorting these 5 kg bags take too much time.

Is the price I'm asking fair if we consider (expensive) world wide shipping?

Daniel

With shipping included and knowing you personally I think it's fair, but I really doubt that anyone on the internet would believe that you haven't searched them. I think it might better to search through all of them and sell them individually or by group

Well my friend, if I ordered a bag there had better be gold or silver in my bag. If the random bag didn't have a PM, I'd be upset...then I might complain. (Just a viewpoint you might want to consider).
I'd think carefully about how you do this? You would do better to list what is in each bag (which defeats the point) or sell individually.
Whatever you decide, I love your ideas to promote Numismatics.
Just to put your offer in perspective, locally here I can buy coins for 50 SEK/kg ($6.25/kg). You want $310/kg.
Of course, the coins I have bought I knew didn't contain gold or silver, but I have found individual coins worth $60 according to the NPCC World coin guide as the dealer only cares about the higher value metals.

I think the two previous posts sum it up pretty well. Those who don't know you may not trust you, and if they do they'd probably want something nice in the parcel for that price.
Thank you guys,

You all raise valid points and what ill do is keep these up as a possibility but not focus on them, so only the most daring will actually buy the "?" coin sets. I will look every week through one (My employees ship me bags quite alot). They have one job, go around markets and buy coins for the best price possible.

I'll set up my finds from that awesome 20 euro heavenly bargain.

Daniel

like the others have said already, it's two part problem of a fairly high price for knowing nothing of what you get, and a credibility problem if you are dealing with new customers.

The way I would do it is I would pick a number of coins completely at random, grade these and look up the catalogue value of each. Based on that figure out your buy and sell price if bought and sold individually, add the numbers up and take the average per coin or per weight. Now you have an average buy price and an average sell price. Now put your sell price for the lots somewhere in between these numbers.
For added credibility you should disclose which coins you picked at random and used to calculate the price, this way buyers know roughly what to expect AND that they get a fair price.
If you want even more credibility I would suggest you get a decent spell checker.  I suspect that "Expect you cant loose" should be "Except you can't lose"

And I agree with others.  If a consumer can pick up mixed bags for a few dollars a kilo I don't think you'd have too many takers for 100g for $31.  Personally I would sort through the coins myself and sell the coins individually or in cheap bulk lots for the ones that there are no really high value coins.
