1674 Farthing - Value / grade

Good morning all,

Starting collecting again in the last month, having an absolute blast. Also Numista is such a fantastic resource, so thanks for that!

I was wondering how this values/grades because the obverse is much less worn than the reverse.

Charles II farthing 1674 / 22.5mm / weight 5g (bad integer scales) / Copper

1 Farthing - Charles II - England – Numista

It does have a pretty nice obverse, but also looks like some corrosion going on? if it didn't have that corrosion stuff going on with it I would feel comfortable paying around $40 for it. Maybe half that in the state it is in.

Yes, there is something a little funky going on with it, I'm not sure if it is surface level or something deeper.

The example coin on the Numista page also appears to have similar, so maybe they are susceptible to it.

After getting a closer look at it, it appears to be verdigris. You can soak it in 100% acetone to help stop the spread of it. It will affect the grade/ value significantly. I tend to stay away from coins with verdigris, but if it's something like this one with nice details I'll pick it up if it's cheap.
