I have a 1973 2-cent coin that was minted in Perth. Numista catalogue only has three options available, BU Year set, Circulation Canberra Mint and Proof year set.

According to Renniks Australian Coin & Banknote Values, 32nd Edition, Page 77 there were 25.97 Million 2-cent coins made at the Perth Mint.

I have attached an image of the coin for reference as well as a coin from the Canberra Mint.

Could you please modify the Australian 2 Cent coin page to include Perth mint circulated coins for 1973?

coinsandaustralia supports Perth mint also for 1973:

Will add when I get a chance. Just got off the plane in Brisbane from Dubai. Waiting to catch the train to the Gold Coast.

I have added the line for the Perth Mint 1973 2 Cent Issue of 25,975,000 coins struck. 😁

However there is no way to tell the coins apart from the Canberra ones struck on the same year unfortunately. 😒

I will probably get other members now telling me that we should have only one mintage line for the combined mintage. 😐

Sometimes you just can't win. 🤔

thank you, I Really appreciate you doing that.

within the comments section of the 2 cent piece it has a graphical representation of how to tell the mintages apart.

the image I have attached in the thread shows the different claw types from the two different mints.

I’ll taker a higher resolution shot tomorrom and maybe that can be added to the comments as well for clarification on distinguishing the different types?

The different claw types only refer to the ones minted in 1966.  This is mentioned in both Rennicks and McDonald's Catalogues.

@Sjoelund

I can delete the 1966 images, if you prefer? I reused them since they are clearer!

I'd delete the 1966 ones and keep it just for the 1973.  The pictures I posted were enlargements of the ones in the OP. If Titan416 takes higher resolution pictures use them instead.

Thanks Ole.

Since the macro images for the two years, I could also just use mine!

I think pictures of the variants from the actual year should be used if you have them.

I think so as well. Your images were really bad… if the OP can send better then sure I'll use them.

  • I took these this morning under a microscope of the two different coins. It shows a clear difference in the die type which reflects the 1966 information.

I'm not at home today, so the documentation will be modified later, thanks for the neat images.

Since my wife is not ready yet, I managed to use the new images:

I'll make the CR now, as well!

Looks great except change “the 3 possible mints” to 2.

Ho Ole - I have approved your update but will  PM you for some changes.
