Why are Melgarejo medals split up between the coin and exonumia catalogs? Who decides what goes where? It seems to be very inconsistent.

Hello,

right now, it is up to the referee to assign such items based on guidelines. Private issues and things without face value usually go to exonumia.

I see. I brought them up because Bolivian monetary medals (Melgarejo or not) were given a face value, minted by the National mint themselves and generally followed the same specifications of regular circulation coinage at the time.

Hi,

unfortunately, for some time now  Numista catalogue is following a “new” guideline to organize, sistemize, regroup, splitt, categorize coins and group of coins, which in many cases is not accurate in terms of history and causes confusion.
