Has anyone of you had a previous problem where a coin has been stolen from you from the post?
I just received a letter today that had been ripped open and was empty inside the content had been stolen. I am very angry as this was a coin of greater value

in I would have said AU 50 or better that I bought from eBay. It was partially my fault as I did not choose the insured letter but instead chose the normal one.
Here's the link from eBay of the coin that I had bought

It's happened to me
Before.. Check though because I know with Royal Mail even normal Royal Mail 1st class is insured up to around £40-50..
Try a claim through eBay...

Thanks for your support guys but I don´t think that it would change anything. First the seller wasn´t at fault and I did not ask for an insured letter so he can't refund it. Then the German post office does not offer any refund for non-insured mail. So I guess it is the unknown thief's fault and also mine for not choosing insured mail for a higher value coin x. .

Agh I really feel for you mate, that's why I don't swap during the festive period cos the post companies tend to take on Xmas temps and how trust worthy are they in a temporary job ?
I know that it sounds unbelievable, but these phenomena are occurring in western countries as well...I had twice this problem with Netherlands and once with Germany...The only solution I found is registered mail!

Hello,

That is not always true. I did a swap with Italy, he got my unregistered letter perfectly fine but he sent me a registered letter and all I got was an empty envelope.

Regards
In my own experience it all boils down to packaging, the only 2 empty ones I've received we're merely envelopes, I always package them so they are secure then put them in card too so you can't feel them through the packet !
Yeah it was a letter with bubble wrap but I don´t know if he used anything else such as carton so that it can´t be felt whats inside.

Once my grandmother sent me some Turkish coins after a trip. When I recieved the envelope it was in a special USPS envelope saying the letter had been damaged and they apologized for the inconvenience, etc. I took the envelope out and saw it was was pretty messed up so I opened it and the letter and coins were fine. I figured it was just a machine or something, but now that I think about it it may have been an employee. Had it been a machine the coins and letter would have been damaged as well, right? Could it have been someone who opened it and put it back as they were just about to get caught? I guess it doesn't matter much but It makes me wonder.
Hello, yes it happened to me, I received letter from United Kingdom (to Slovakia) empty, without any coins. (some commemorative olympic 50 pence were there...╣

Letter was sent by common royal 1. class mail.

It never happened to me when I was sending / receiving coins by registered letter!

So I can tell, that it is much safer and better to pay some more money and send letter as registered!
In the UK sending 1st recorded doesn't do much other than prove the other party got theirs - it's still in with the ordinary mail; special delivery on the other hand is fully separate and is recorded all the way.
I use a lot of tape from the inside so that it can be opened and still not fall out.

Sorry for all the trouble to my swaps for having to deal with all the tape
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Unfortunately it happened to me as well with a recent swap. It wasn't the fault of the person who I swapped with, because he packed the coins well (it was impossible to feel inside the bubble envelope what's in it). I honestly don't know why somebody would do that, because the coins weren't even that valuable, just some random world coins. Luckily, the guy I swapped with said that it really is a shame and he kindly transfered the value of the coins (about 2 euros) to my bank account.

I'm still pretty sad about this, because I've lost my coins and now somebody who can't do a thing with those coins has them.

So let this be a wise lesson: always pack your coins properly in a way that nobody else except you can open the package to prevent these kind of situations!
