China cash coin? [solved]

I recently purchased and old coin from a friend who simply told me it was an old Chinese cash coin.

I have spent days on the internet trying to get more information about it, and have found nothing.

I have gone through the entire Numista “China” set of photos and can't find it.

I did find the attached photo in an old reddit chat which is exactly my coin, but it had no caption or details.

The coin is about 17mm and made of bronze, I believe.

Can anybody help me date and place this coin more firmly?

Is it even Chinese?
