11th Armored Cavalry, Heart of the Blackhorse coin - family heirloom - is it rare or valuable?

width: looks to around 2mm thick? Kind of hard to tell with my tape measure

Any info you can give me about this coin and how old it is / what it means would be great! :) 

It's been passed down to my husband from his father.  My husbands father was in the Coast Guard, and I believe this is an Army coin, so it must've been passed down before. I would love to know how old it is.
