Since I have received requests to increase/decrease size of my pictures, I wonder which would be the best size for pictures in my collection and in the top of pages.
Currently, I can get pictures from e.g. 20KB to 4MB
Thanks

I think quality tops resolution ... I'd rather have a knife sharp 1000x1000 picture than a blury 3000x3000.
Personally I don't see much use in uploading some 32+ Megapixel pictures taken with a smartphone. They are often out of focus and very noisy due to suboptimal lighting conditions and/or crappy sensors.
For coins I most often settle for 1000-1200 px2 and banknotes 700-1000 px on the small length.
Another example for the same resolution this left picture is the original (307 kB), the right picture (182 kB) was altered so that 16 pixel represent 1 pixel of the original. The resolution is the same, but I would certainly say the original picture is the higher quality one.
But it could also be funny to have a picture where you can zoom in like on Google earth for coins with hidden features, but the size would be prohibitively huge 🙃.
Example of micro elements on Japanese 500 yen. Excerpts at 60x magnification.

At what point does the file size of an image become an issue for speed of loading in a viewer's browser, or become a drain on the resources of the numista site, I wonder?
Yeah, 5 MB takes far too long to load on a mobile…

This and other Numisdoc articles should be converted/moved to articles in the “Documentation center” ("FAQ") section.
Cet article est bien dans la partie documentation ( NUMISDOC )
La Foire Aux Questions ( FAQ ) contient des réponses
aux questions fréquemment posées dans les Forums
This article is indeed in the documentation part ( NUMISDOC )
The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) contains answers
to frequently questions asked in the Forums

Yes, but we need to do 4 clicks before access to this page in “Menu > FAQ”:
(and we find only if we know it exists).
I know there are articles of Numisdoc not necessary for use Numista (as sections “Countries” or most of “Numismatic encyclopedia”), other can be outdated, but other are useful and can be copied to the FAQ main page. (In this moment I have permissions in FAQ section, if only is copy/paste I can help).
Also, I suppose Numisdoc will be removed sooner or later:
Numisdoc was a project of numismatic encyclopedia hosted by Numista. It was closed in March 2022.
Although it is not possible to write or edit articles, it is still possible to view the articles at https://en.numista.com/numisdoc/.
But (perhaps) this can be another suggestion.😉
Nous sommes du même avis :
Avant qu'il ne disparaisse, des articles de Numisdoc devraient figurer dans la FAQ qui s'appellerait ensuite NumisDOCumentation plus complète avec un accès plus facile
We agree:
Before it disappears, articles from Numisdoc should appear in the FAQ which would then be called NumisDOCumentation more complete with easier access
