Silver Afghanistan coin 143 regional year? [solved]

Hi,

I need some help identifying this silver Afghani coin.

The regional year[?] in Persian is 143.

Weight: 4.53g

Diameter: 16mm

Afghanistan - ½ Rupee - Abd al-Rahman, Herat mint.

Date on coin seems to be an error date for AH1304

That makes sense.  I had been wondering if it was a 1243 error date, but 1304 makes more sense since 0 is sometimes

omitted.

Hi,

Thank you.

The error date makes sense.

As to a more general question about non-milled Afghani silver coins:

I noticed that an example with a small date separated by the line of one of the other characters is listed under the same catalog number as one with large unabridged date numbers.

Was the date an afterthought, and would these be considered die variations for the same type of coin, or am I looking at this the wrong way?

AH date and regnal year are added after the main die is cut. So such die variations are quite common on these hammered coins.
