Rather than indulge in thread necromancy, and there appear to be a few threads on the subject of British Guiana, I will start a new thread, as I have a slightly different proposal.

British Guiana should be added as a section of Guyana in the same way as Demerara and Essequibo already is.

I have some earlier British Guyana notes to add, which I discovered researching St. Lucia improvers.

Can I ask the person who downvoted this sensible proposal to explain why?

Former Numista referee for banknotes from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Saint Helena.

Perhaps they did not have the opportunity to have a look at Guyana, I will put in a link for easy reference.

The name should be ‘British Guiana’.

Aidan.

@BC

Thanks BC, I corrected my spelling error in the title :)

I would be interested in knowing why the two downvoters are voting this down.

Do they have an alternative suggestion for managing the notes of British Guiana within the Guyana section.

British Guiana 1814-1966

British West Indies Dollar was one of its currencies, at least in the period from 1926 for Barclays notes:

and from 1920 for royal Bank of Canada notes:

N#295693

British Guiana had 4 Pence coins in circulation right up to 1945.

Aidan.

Any traction on this one?

It would be useful to have a decision on this.

Sorry the answer did not change :-)

Exactly as for Zaire/Congo and other recurring requests, we consider better to not split issuers based on name changes or changes in the form of government; it is exactly like if you asked to separate France between kingdom, republic, empire etc… Or if you wanted us to separate “Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya” from Libya.

Splits happen only when there is a significant change in territory and population (Cf USSR/Russia)

No worries.

- A few observations.

I would consider Zaire/Congo to be not comparable in this case.

Why is Demerara and Essequibo a separate sublisting? Your reasoning is not consistent.
For consistency, I would argue that Demerara and Essequibo should by listed under Guyana if British Guiana is not to be given equivalent status to Demerara and Essequibo in the listing. The area of Demerara and Essequibo is located within what became Guyana.

I will float a new topic on this.

Right reflex indeed, lets open a new discussion :-)
