Help Identifying Edward VII Penny [solved]

7 posts • viewed 103 times

I found this 1903 Edward VII penny in with a

bag of coins and am trying to put it on the site, the pictures may not do it justice, but it is a bright golden coin, the images I have seen of the Edward VII pennies from this time all seem to be more of a copper / bronze colour. Is it fake, or am I not seeing the images correctly? Anything helps.

If it has around the right size and weight it is most likely plated.

But if not it could also be a cast, this would explain the low quality/grade.

looks like it was in a corrosive state I can tell by the many small divets and that someone polished it up creating a unnatural tone to the metal

The same happened to this 1908 Penny - after someone previously also

drilled a hole at the top to make it into a necklace. This one seems to have

been plated recently as all the coloring is still there …

So yours was either plated (maybe with a different metal) or polished.

Like both the previous replies mentioned.
