Three different 1 Jital coins from Kangra?

3 posts • viewed 113 times

I have got two coins from Kangra Kingdom and I had an unidentified coin that looks quite similar to them.

Here you have their pictures.

The first on the right was given to me as Rupa Chandra Deva 1200-50 Tye#61 (I suppose that this is a catalog number) 3,32g and 15mm.

The central one has been classified as Apurva Chandra Deva 1345-60 Tye#66 3,41g  15mm.

The left one is the one that looks to me similar 2,79g and 13 mm.

I ask to you if the attribution of the first two coins is correct and if you could tell me something more about the coin on the left. Is it from Kangra kingdom too?

Thank you all!

Welcome to Numista!

Yes the rightmost one does match Rupa Chandra Deva

Here's a photo of Tye 66 from Apurva Chandra Deva, but I can't tell if it matches your central coin

Your third (new) coin on the left certainly looks like it is Kangra, but I wasn't able to identify a match in Zeno.

Here's the list of Kangra coins in Numista. Maybe with the coin in hand you'll be able to find a match. Or perhaps one of our more knowledgeable members in this area may be able to help.

Hi Seeker55 thanks for your help, starting from your link I managed on finding exactly my 2 coins on zeno ru:

Zeno - Oriental Coins Database - Rajas of Kangra the rightmost

Zeno - Oriental Coins Database - Kangra Rajas, Tye#61, Rupa Chandra Deva as regards the central one

So it seems they are both Rupa Chandra Deva and the attribution was wrong.

The coin on the left looks a little bit different, but I can't read the characters so I hope that someone can help on identifying it.

Regards,

Dario
