Antique Libyan coin query

6 posts • viewed 112 times

Hi all.

I have a question as I didn't manage to find this coin amongst the one in the catalogue or maybe I am looking for it in the wrong country.

I believe this coin has it's origin from Libya. But I stand to be corrected.

Any help appreciated.

You can see the name of Misr mint above the date

The date has already been explained and the previously provided link by Mr. Midnight is easy enough to do. Enter IIVI ( located at the bottom of the reverse of the coin) ) = 1171 (Islamic calender) converts to 1758AD (Western calender). What is not clear is what the annotations are trying to communicate along side each date. This Numista page should have these explained clearly before they were added to the catalog. You might want to research those details on other sites but I could not find clarification anywhere I looked so far.
