Hey guys, just created my account here mostly because I wanted to correct what seems to be an error.
I have a 10 Laari coin from the Maldives which clearly says 1960 and 1379 and it is most definitely made of Aluminium. According to the catalog the 1960/1379 one is supposed to be made of Nickel-Brass where as the Aluminium one should be dated 1979/1399. Thought I should share this so that it gets fixed.
Just found a couple of 1960/1379 made of Nickel-Brass like the catalogue says, so why do I also have one made of Aluminium? A little uncommon to strike the same coin in two different metals on the same year then jump 19 years until the next strike with the same metal, isn't it?
I've been trying to find any mention of this coin elsewhere but I haven't found it yet. Anybody find anything, especially if you could find mintage numbers it would be awesome if you could let me know. Thanks!
Now I've found 5 Laari 1970 in Nickel-Brass, Numista said it was only minted in Aluminium! What is up with my coins!?
Edit: also my 5 Laari 1979 that indeed is Aluminium does not weigh 2.7 grams. My kitchen scale that unfortunately only shows one digit says 1 gram. And since the 10 Laari Aluminium coin weighs 2 grams, 2.7 grams just has to be false.
I made two corrections - thanks.
The weight changed from 2.7g to 1g as the next coin already showed 1g weight.
The 1970 date added. I tried adding it as 1389 but it displayed (1969) as the converted date. So to make it show (1970) I had to enter 1390 date. I saw an independent source that said it existed in Nickel-brass.
yes i try'd getting these coins and still am, but they are very hard to come by i've seen a couple though and plus i mentioned something about this in another post.glad to see someone else has noticed also.
A little off topic here, but which coins are you interested in?
I have some coins of the Maldives and they're up for trade if you'd like. PM me if you're interested.
