Edit it’s not Lyon it’s Paris now.8~

Hi
between late May and early June My family and I are going to stay in Le Chesnay, Versailles area and Paris France for a few days and as well as the other attractions my parents want to go to (they haven’t been since the late 90s) I would like to know how to get coin rolls from a machine or from the bank, post office.

Also I will be going to the Paris mint Museum and various coin/note shops to add some finds to my collection.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

You can not get coins from any automat. Your only chance is to buy rolls in the post offices, if they agree to do it for "foreigners".
Bon voyage.

Thanks, hopefully that method works because my parents speak French among a couple other languages
they speak while I only know the basics.:(

Anyway I’m keeping this topic open because the trip isn’t till May next year.:P

Changed it to sudden U-turn to where we’re going.

A few years ago it was easy to enter a bank and ask to change a banknote in coins, and requesting rolls.
Unfortunately, recently the banks started to avoid to manage money in any form (if you ask for retrieving money from your account or want to deposit, they do the paper work, and then give you a special card to access the ATM), but you can still try, may be the allow to get coins
In a few cases when you get the rest in a shop you see that they are opening a roll, in this case they are usually happy to give the remain of the roll

I might sign up for that special card but in worst case scenario I’ll just ask around for some rolls of every denomination 1C to €2.

Of course they won’t have all of them this would be done of the course of a few days.

It depends on the situation especially with a new variant entering circulation. Plus If we do go it would be my first time hunting foreign coins and first trip/holiday since May 2019 and first in the 20s.

Also one important detail I missed is how would I be able to deposit the searched rolls to be able to get different rolls of coins or the money back without an account?

You know that most operating systems come with tools like Notepad right, to keep track of your inner thoughts? MacOS apparently comes with TextEdit. You should really try it, instead of posting everything here! But really!

There is an automatic distributor of Unc 2€CC and depending on your ability to smile and negotiate, a hostess might get coaxed out and pull out a roll or two from under the counter.

I use notes more often than text TextEdit and if I have thoughts I tend to keep them to myself from funny thoughts to very dark ones which I rarely share with anyone.

I know it sounds like a dumb question but maybe the bank only accepts full rolls of coins or limits on how much you can deposit in the bank.

yes it sounds dumb. I think in reality, after the clerk handed coin rolls to you, even if you didn't tear them and you didn't leave the counter, if you decide to deposit or change them back, the clerk is obligated to tear all rolls and re-count the coins.

What is this really about? Getting coins to investigate or to return coins which have been verified? Where's the interest?

Getting coin rolls to hunt (for commemoratives, new countries, new types and for the lower denominations new years) then return the searched ones to said bank or the post office.

Try a large grocery store. I have had good luck getting rolls and crisp uncirculated notes in some countries this way.

One thing I forgot about until recently is that we’re also going to the market at Saint-Ouen to browse and buy postcards, pins and of course coins and notes. The main question is do they have coins there, what kinds and are they appropriately priced?

Anyway I’ve been in Versailles for a few days now and so far I’ve been to Paris 3 times already, I’ve bought a few things numismatic and non-numismatic related products.

I’ve had trouble getting rolls from various banks in Paris so I’ll start with the ones in Versailles and start with the La Postes in my area.

Alternatively I have used the metro toilet banknote to coin changers to get Euro coins which so far I have a few for my type set and a slightly lower mintage 2007 Portugal Euro.

Reading this thread makes me feel like I'm reading someone's diary. What is going on here? 😆

I have an important tip for you on how to keep looking for different types of coins and some advice.

Tip - you find a vending machine (drinks, snacks, whatever) that accepts coins. You throw a coin or several, and press “Cancel”, it will give you different coins back for the amount you threw in. You can do it again, and again, and at different vending machines. Pros - you will get a lot of new varieties for yourself without bothering anybody at the bank or post office. Cons - you will become obsessed with these vending machines everywhere, you won't get 1 & 2 eurocents, and occasionally a machine can “eat” your coins.

Advice - please, do not write so many unnecessary posts here. We all understand that you are a teenager, you are very excited about coins, and will eventually grow up. But, trust me, a lot of people see a post from “Worldwide collection" and simply ignore it without reading. Some people understandably get very annoyed and try to kindly address it. So, if you have something important to ask or say, do it. But if it is a pointless talk or bumping, keep it in your “notebook”, and please do not spam the forum.

Happy collecting!

And here I thought WC invented the vending machine trick…..

Worldwide collectionThese are my noteworthy finds from 2 days ago.

2017 Benjamin Bunny 50p from using the vending machine trick as well as some other coins for my date run.

Basically at college there is a coffee vending machine that when you insert a coin and press reject it returns a different coin but the same denomination apart from if you insert three 5ps it will give you one 5p and a 10p instead.

I tried this trick looking for $1 presidential coins.  Put in $5 bill, hit cancel, machine whizzed and whirled then did nothing.  So I put in another $5 bill.

I do it all the time with quarters and dollar coins. I usually use coins, not bills to throw in first. In most cases, I don't have any issues, but occasionally I do lose coins there, but rarely. I got a lot of Presidential dollars, even a few after 2011, got a 2002 dollar, got a W quarter, etc. In Portugal earlier this year, I got a bunch of Commemorative 2 euros. If I am sitting at the airport, I have an immediate thought to go to throw coins for 10-15 minutes in some machine that is not busy and does not have a line. My problem is that there are not that many vending machines where I go/drive these days.

I'm just back from a nice 4-day trip to London, where I found ONE coin I missed, but I didn't spoil the visit for my wife because of my hobby. I'll find, what I miss in swaps, sooner or later.

I've only gotten one post 2011 $1 coin from a vending machine (so far), a 2014 Warren G. Harding.

Sadly all the vending machines (that I’ve seen) don’t do that. The only ones that can reject different coins were the ones at the Channel tunnel but I didn’t have time to use them.

I understand most users might consider the vast majority of my posts as spamming, which I agree I did on several occasions, and I blame the days that I have little time to post which I copy and paste topics I have done in advance. I have some that I still yet to post that I created nearly 2 years ago.

Also I’m a introvert kind of person where I find interacting with strangers hard and sometimes the way I explain it can give a bad impression. That‘s why I didn’t made many friends and I struggle to do presentations even when I’ve know them for years. Secondly I have autism which is affects me mildly on some times and badly on the rest with day to day life but it’s there which caused me to be depressed during lockdowns. So when I started posting last year my knowledge and questions didn’t come periodically but as I call it the

“floodgates” opened. 🤐

So next time if you find my posts annoying just ignore them or PM me very kindly giving me the heads up to slow down. (I don’t take abuse very well so if you want to call me all the names under the sun, just say it to yourself or in worst cases just internally scream, which works well for me).🫡

Anyway I’ll carry on with the topic on the French side because the people there are more optimistic on helping me (that could be due to me seldom Posting).
