I’m shocked about the prices I think they should retail around the £50 to £80 mark even the 1992-1993 EEC 50p with a mintage of 109,000 most likely less because these were withdrawn from use in 1998 and melted down sells for £45 to £80 normally.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
I shall have to keep my eye on these auctions, as I have a spare Kew Gardens coin on my swap list.
That is 370 times it's face value.
If you look at the offer prices on some of the 2019 UK Alphabet letters, some are 500+ times face value.
As the Kew Gardens had 210,000 minted, some of these alphabet coins only had 63,000, so understandably, the alphabet coin are rarer, and in reality claim a higher premium, but more often than not, they don't.
I still believe the Key Gardens coin in the UK coin that most collectors of modern coins want.
To be honest I’m not really a fan of the design on the coin and some of the A-Z 10ps. I’m more into the 1992-1993 EEC 50p more than Kew Gardens.

Do you have the EEC coin in your collection? I agree with you, that this is a very nice coin, but very few collectors talk about it in comparison to the Kew Gardens coin

Sadly I don’t own one.
You could theoretically say that the Kew Gardens is the rarest 50p in circulation and the rarest coin in currency circulation in the U.K. until the A-Z 10ps came out in 2018-19.
I think the EEC coin and many other coins and notes are so underrated and deserve more credit.

I think that as soon as someone mentions a coin with a nice story, other coins are forgotten. I will admit that as soon as the Kew Gardens coin was mentioned as having a low mintage, it was the only topic of conversation.
Again, the Alphabet coins have now out shone it for a while, but with collectors announcing the high price on eBay of the Kew Gardens coins, then it jumps straight back to the top of the pile.
I think you need to hunt down the EEC coin. Its beautiful. I would love the silver version, but never seen one

I’m waiting for a bargain XF and up one or maybe I might get the proof set which includes the EEC 50p.

A seller at Charing Cross Collectors' Fair had about 5 or so on display today, including a silver if I remember rightly. Thought it was unusual to have so many of such a rare coin. Not really my thing, and my wallet was empty by then anyway.

I have spent many a happy hour or four in that collectors fair. Used to get up early to catch the train from Bath, then the underground and arrive around 8.30. Did some great negotiating there, and bought plenty of coins.
I expect the silver version, if in its original box was not cheap, nor would the standard coin.
Oh what happy memories.
