Are there any other soldiers on Numista? If so, introduce yourself.

Where did you serve?
I was in the Army - straight from school. My father thought it would be a good idea, and he knew the sergeant in the recruiting office down the road from his shop. He was in the army himself. I passed the exams and was put in the Intelligence Corps. The 'intelligence' meaning is information not cleverness - lol.
Can't talk about it though! I signed the Official Secrets Act.
I have a picture of me in a uniform, on leave, in part of my parent's garden ...

Nope, I'm a confirmed pacifist
Quote: neilithicNope, I'm a confirmed pacifist
If we were all pacifists, the world would be a much different place because there will always be bullies to take advantage. I do not regret a single day of the 25 years that I spent in the military ... including the day I lost my legs. I was proud to be a soldier and serve my country. However, since returning home, I am ashamed of my government that does very little to help veterans especially those with serious medical issues. There are months that I cannot afford to buy my meds. I have sold all of my valuable coins that I collected over the years just to make ends meet.  I live in a one bedroom apartment (dump). Now, I spend my time fighting for benefits that I thought would be automatic for an injured soldier. During the past 5 years, our government cut benefits to injured soldiers by over 40%. If I had lost my legs 3 years earlier, I would get almost double my current benefits.

No, if ALL were pacifists then there would be no bullies, because they'd all be pacifists.

Personally I feel I have no right to take the life of another because it doesn't matter what happens in this life, but what happens in the next life that matters, and if that means that my country is invaded and I'm killed for my beliefs then so be it.  This existence is temporary, our next existence is permanent.  But each to their own beliefs.
I believe that each person has a right to his opinion and a right to freely express that opinion. Many have fought so you could have that right. I do not have to agree with your opinion but I would fight to defend your right to express that opinion. I do not agree with protestors who would burn our country's flag, but I would fight for their right to do so.
I appreciate that this is in the free discussion section, however, this seems to be getting more political than I wish. I acknowledge that you have fought for your country but I am not sure that all members need reminding of it, in most threads or your government's cut to benefits. I'm sorry to come across like this but I am just expressing my opinion on this matter.

Thank you for your opinion barn777. I will try to show more restraint in the future.
Going in to the army next month, damned conscription. I'd be in university 5 years older than anyone else.

I spent over 20 years in the military. It is a good career for some. It is bad for family life. That is why I am 47 years old and single.

It was from a newspaper and the source was quoted. What is the problem?
