As far as I know, it's illegal to send trough the post mail all kinds of currency no matter what the value is. I know for sure that is a law in the United States and in Colombia even if it's just domestically. What do my fellow traders here in Numista do?  8~
Some countries exclude numismatic items from prohibition, other countries don't enforce the regulations, some insist that registred mail is used. The laws are meant to stop the export of large quantaties of coins and illegal money transfers, not steal a few coins from collectors. Sadly many customs officers take the uniform too seriously and seem devoid of common sense.

Most countries require a customs declaration to be completed, if you list the items as "Coins", "Money!" or even worse "rare collectors coins", one of two things will happen. It will either be seized by the customs or stolen by the mailman. Use a more non-descript term such as "tokens" or even better "hobby supplies" and use enough packing to make sure that the coins can't be heard or felt through the envelope. Don't ever put loose coins in a regular envelope, you are guaranteed to lose them. The sorting machines pass the coins through a series of rollers which will push your coins right out of the corner of the envelope and onto the floor.

Here is a complete list by country. I would recommend everyone to bookmark this and check whenever considering a trade overseas.

It's intertesting that Zimbabwe has such a ridiculous rate of inflation that it's no longer possible for them to produce currency fast enough to keep up. They are using US coins instead of their own worthless dollars. I wonder how they managed to get those through customs!

I hope you find this helpful.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.
Make Numismatics Great Again!
Thank you for this information! I think everyone here would also find this very helpful. I've read in many posts how they don't receive their goods and I guessed that was the reason  :o  happy trading everyone and once again, thank you!
I have mailed over 1000 packages to approximately 70 countries and there has never been a problem. I list as numismatics or collectibles on the customs forms.
how come in your ratings, the last few said that they never got their coins?

The mail service is not perfect. These were swaps. I was referring that I did not have problems with post office not allowing me to mail coins to any country. I think one of the guys received the coins but after I complained about the coins that he sent, he said he did not receive the coins that I sent.
ive had a few  X-D  people said they never got my coins??? you know they are full of

Well put, James
Thanks for share that info with us.
Cents are money too!
Hard to believe that Nazi to Communist idiotism has reached that far....

Ask your local police but....

How do you order a coin by postal shopping or send relatives money for birthday....

P. S. Lazy mailmen can´t be the bar....Hopefully it was a joke...
MWeber37 it is indeed hard to believe but the reason at first was to avoid mail to get assaulted by random people on the street. That's why the Fedex and UPS trucks say that "no cash onboard" and the other more modern reaons is what got mentioned above. I guess we just have to be careful on our packagings  :`
And you are sure that´s no company-internal policy ?????
What make´s a tiny envelope more a reason to gun assault than a big direct mail ordered television ?
And maybe that´s another reason the economy deboosts....
However we Europeans keep sending money, cheques and things by mail and
a good alternative are registered or insured letter......!!!!

But indeed no-one is forced (like The Force) to swap coins by mail.....

Err, I forgot....
Good mail suppliers offer a "tracking", which means you and/or the addressee can see where
your shipment is....and mostly you know who (by name) signed for your sending.....

But when one thinks with his/her gender and wants to send to particular countries ;)  ;)  ;)
