Help needed for buying Meiji era Yen

3 posts • viewed 120 times
I'm planning on buying a Meiji era silver yen to expand my Japanese coin collection (preferably from 1874 to 1912), but I am unsure of where to start. The prices can range greatly from under £100 to thousands depending on date and grade, but I'm hoping to get one for under £200. I am also aware that there are many fakes floating around online, making it a bit of a minefield.

So far, I've looked on eBay, Delcampe, Heritage Auctions, and Numiscorner for Meiji yen. Are there any other recommended websites for Japanese coinage? Also, what sort of grade/condition can I expect given my budget?

Thanks for the help!

Their website states that they block the exporting of coins, and any attempts to bid are blocked. Guessing it's due to the large number of fakes in the Asian market.
