The article is devoted to a unique golden dīnār of Caliph al-Muqtadir bi-llāh, struck in Madīnat as-Salām (Baghdad) in the 304 A.H. (916/917 A.D.), preserved in the Department of Numismatics of the State Hermitage Museum. The obverse has a depiction of an eagle and the name of the Caliph and the place and year of minting around the edge. On the reverse is a depiction of a saddled double-humped (Bactrian) camel, with a branch at left, a sword-like decoration above, and quotation from the Qur'ān around the edge. The diameter of the coin is 25.5 mm; weight 8.47 g. This dīnār is a memorial coin, although the occasion cannot be identifi ed on the basis of written sources. The analogs of the Hermitage dīnār are the “portrait medal” of al-Muqtadir bi-llāh from the collection of Berlin Museum and the medallion of al-Mutawakkil 'alá-llāh with a depiction of a camel from the collection of Vienna Museum.
