Abstract

The examination of archival documents from the Gabrielli Fund in Ascoli Piceno revealed new information about a hoard of about 275 denarii. The find, discovered in 1883 in the locality of S. Maria del Paggese (today S. Maria di Acquasanta Terme), belongs to the Severan period. The hoard was sold by the owners a year after its discovery. However, thanks to a nineteenth-century notebook, it has been possible to piece together about half of its contents. Twenty denarii from the hoard, described in the manuscript, were purchased by Giulio Gabrielli and are today within the Civic Numismatics Collection of Ascoli Piceno.
