The beatification of Pope John Paul II on May 1, 2011 is commemorated
on this 2011 tri-metallic 10 Dollar coin issued for the Antarctic Territories. One side of the 27mm coin
pictures the Pope. The other side shows a map of Antarctica. There is a certain irony in a coin being
issued honoring the Pope by the only continent that the Pope never visited.
