Karol był odpowiedzialny za Luksemburg
od swojej koronacji w 1346 r. do końca 1353 r., kiedy to opuścił hrabstwo na rzecz Wacława I.
Na początku 1346 r. przekazał hrabstwo arcybiskupowi Baudouinowi de Trêves, któremu był winien znaczne sumy.
