THE STANDING CALIPH - Abd Al-Malik Bin Marwan

Umayyad Standing Caliph Fals (Copper) struck in many Syrian and Palestine mints in the reign of Abd Al-Malik Bin Marwan. Widely considered as the very first non-imitative coinage of Islam, though inspired from Byzantine Fals & Solidus prototypes which is why they're called Arab-Byzantine Coins.

Goodwin has estimated their date of striking as 74-78 in most places, a bit later in others.

Hajjaj Bin Yusus (Commander) of And Al Malik suggest the Caliph to introduce their own coinage in order to get rid of the Byzantine currency which is why in Ah77 we saw a new Islamic coinage.

Due to Islamic preachings and the Hadiths, Abd Al-Malik couldn't keep his portrait on the coin for long thus after less than a year he introduced the fully Islamic Obverse & Reverse coinage.

Though many examples of survived, those struck on full flans, certain mints, and in high grade command substantial premiums.
