Zwykły
This rare Manipur rupee, struck in Vaisakh of Sk. 1678 (AD 1756), was likely issued to commemorate the king’s installation and is known from a very limited mintage. During this ruler’s reign, Manipur first established contact with the British in response to threats from Burma. The coin, a rarer variant of the Extremely Rare Mohurs of Manipur, bears the legend “Jaya Sri Gaura Simha” instead of the usual “Sri Sri Gaura Simha.” Only two similar examples are known, both housed in the British Museum, and the unique reverse legend arrangement on this piece suggests it may be one of a kind.
